CumnockPostcode: 2867 Cumnock is a small town in New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the now closed cross-country railway line from Molong to Dubbo. The town is located in Cabonne Shire. At the 2001 census, Cumnock had a population of 270.
Cumnock is a little village in what they call Cabonne Country -Australia’s Food Basket, which encompasses the larger provincial cities of Cowra, Forbes, Parkes, Wellington and Orange in central NSW and the villages in between.
Cumnock itself is known for its arts and crafts galleries - the community of less than 300 supporting, among others, a leatherworker, embroiderer, folk artist, woodworker and bush furniture maker, seedpod and topiary maker and a metal craftsperson.
Despite the faintly forbidding name, The Old Courthouse Café serves wholesome tucker with good old-fashioned home-style courtesy.
There are also a sporty bunch out this way with the puff and grunt community claiming the 'best oval out of Sydney,' in a complex that includes squash courts, tennis courts, swimming pool and, of course, the bowling club. And that, you might be tempted to agree, is quite a sporting line-up in a town of just 260-odd souls. For more information about this town, click here |
