GuthegaPostcode: 2624 Guthega is a ski resort village in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, in the Snowy River Shire. It has an excellent full range of skiing and boarding facilities. Guthega is a small ski area with tree-lined runs therefore, it can hold good snow on its southern slopes when many other areas are bare. Nearby Guthega Dam is part of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric scheme.
Guthega lies beneath the slopes of Mt Twynam. Smaller in size than Perisher and Thredbo, Guthega has a true village atmosphere. A 40-minute drive from Jindabyne, it joins with Perisher, Blue Cow and Smiggin Holes to form Australia’s largest ski resort region.
Guthega was established in the early 1950s when experienced skiers working on the Snowy Mountains Scheme were looking for opportunities for winter recreation.
Further development, including better access via the Skitube alpine railway, occurred in the 1980s and '90s. For more information about this town, click here |
