Kangaroo ValleyPostcode: 2577 Kangaroo Valley Hydroelectric Pumping Station is a hydroelectric power station in the Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales, Australia. Kangaroo Valley has two 80 MW pump/turbine units, for a total electricity generating capacity of 160 MW.
The power station was completed in 1977 as a joint project between the Electricity Commission of NSW and the NSW Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board. Management has subsequently been passed from those bodies to Eraring Energy and the Sydney Catchment Authority. It can operate as either a pump or a generator. During off peak periods, it utilises excess electricity from the grid to pump water back up to the reservoir as pumped storage.
Nestled between the neighbouring regions of Shoalhaven and the Southern Highlands, Kangaroo Valley must be one of the most enchanting and picturesque in the state. Whether for a day trip or a longer stay, the Kangaroo Valley is a must for visitors based in either region.
Kangaroo Valley is home to an orchard based tourist attraction which is fascinating to young and older. A pioneer farm museum also welcomes visitors. Accommodation can be arranged at local caravan parks, country resorts, B&B's or the local pub. For more information about this town, click here |
