Putty is a small town in New South Wales, Australia in Singleton Shire.

 

The Putty region is just north-west of Sydney between Windsor and Maitland. It is sandstone area and supports a good healthy population of terrestrial and epiphytic orchids, none the least is Dendrobium speciosum. There are large plants in this area typical of Dendrobium speciosum var. speciosum. The type flowers from this locality are primarily white, but well open. Area is heavily wooded and plants would get between 50-75% shade daily all year round. Plants seem to do best on the top edge of gullies facing north east where they receive cool rising breezes in summer and early morning sun in the winter.
