SawtellPostcode: 2452 Sawtell is a coastal Suburb of Coffs Harbour in northern New South Wales, Australia in the City of Coffs Harbour. It is named after Mr. O. C. Sawtell. and 546km north of Sydney it has become increasingly popular amongst holiday goers due to its small population, many restaurants and proximity to beaches. At the 2001 census, Sawtell had a population of 13,734. The main street of Sawtell has become increasingly well known for its restaurants and its heritage listed cinema.
The Suburb is located close to Toormina and Boambee, two areas of similar population a few kilometres west inland. It is located on the North Coast railway line and is served by 3 XPT services daily.
A number of annual events have been organised by the local chamber of commerce. The Chilli Festival includes many varied activities such as wine tasting, 'hot' desserts and a number of vendors both local and national serving assorted chilli based dishes. Each year a chilli recipe book is produced.
An annual new years 'Fun Day' is conducted primarily aimed at family entertainment. Wood chopping, a fun run, tug of war competitions and live entertainment are the norm.
The Annual Ben Woods Cricket Tournament is also held between Sawtell and Coffs Harbour and takes places during the Christmas Period. Fans of the game come to watch the rivallary between the two opposing post codes of Sawtell and Coffs Harbour. The game has been going for two years and both events have been held at the Toormina Fields, with Coffs Harbour winning the 2004 game and Sawtell narrowly defeating Coffs in the 2005 spectacle.
