TaranaPostcode: 2787 Tarana is a small town in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia in the City of Lithgow.
It is the former junction of the Oberon Branch railway with the Main Western Line. This branch line was notable for its steep 1 in 30 gradients and sharp 100 m curves.
38 km from Bathurst, Tarana is in a secluded and pretty valley halfway between Bathurst and Lithgow. Access is via Brewongle or from the Great Western Highway at Kirkconnell. Near Tarana is the Evans Crown Nature Reserve and it was from the top of this craggy granite outcrop that Surveyor Evans first saw the Bathurst plains. Facilities include a general store and hotel.
