Yea

Postcode: 3717

Yea is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is in the Murrindindi Shire local government area. Located 109 km north-east of Melbourne via the Melba Highway, Yea sits at the junction with the Goulburn Valley Highway, and 172 metres above sea-level. At the 2001 census, Yea had a population of 969.

The town itself boasts one of the most picturesque main streets in the whole Upper Goulburn region. A wide plantation, well planted with magnificent Claret Ash trees , is an ideal place to picnic or commence a heritage walk around the town. The trees herald the seasonal changes, from vivid green in spring - shearing time, to vibrant red, yellow and gold in autumn - lambing. Life moves at a more relaxed pace here and this is reflected by the friendly welcome that visitors receive from the locals.

Yea is the focus of a local farming community. Fine wool and beef and dairy cattle are the main industries, but many alternative farming products are making a name for themselves. Free range poultry, locally made cheese, trout and berry farms, emus, vineyards, honey and a lanolin based skincare range are all to be found in the local area. All these delights can be purchased whether in the town or at the farm gate.
