Oakajee is a small town located in the Mid West region of Western Australia, about kilometres ( mi) north of the town of Geraldton.

In 1996, it was proposed to establish a new port and railway to serve the mining industry, especially iron ore from mines in the Mid West region. The proposed railway would be a common carrier open to all for a fee.

Even though the nearby railways at Geraldton are 3 ft 6 in (1067 mm) narrow gauge, the new railway would be 4 ft 8½ in (1435 mm) standard gauge. This choice of gauge is to allow use of off-the-shelf equipment, especially for heavy duty equipment, and because the countryside is almost desert, there is little expectation of significant through traffic.

The railway and port project lapsed – and has been proposed again ten years later.
