Barunga

Located in the Katherine area of Northern Territory, Barunga is in the Victoria Daly local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lingiari.

Barunga is a small aboriginal community in the Norhern Territory. It is well known for its annual indigenous cultural and sporting festival which is usually held over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June.

The event is called Barunga Festival, it officially began in 1985 to celebrate the towns indigenous community through music, sport and culture, with an outstanding music lineup.

At the 2021 national census, the population of 0852 (Including Barunga) was 8735 people. Out of those, 4485 were male and 4246 were female.
