Timber Creek NT

Timber Creek

Located in the Katherine area of Northern Territory, Timber Creek is in the Victoria Daly local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lingiari.

Timber Creek is situated in the Victoria River valley south west of Katherine and lies at the central point on the Victoria Highway between Katherine and Kununurra.

The name of the town came from Augustus Charles Gregory, an explorer who reached the area in 1855. He named the site Timber Creek because his boat was wrecked in the area and it was here that he cut some timber to repair the hole in their vessel.

Today, Timber Creek is the traditional land of the Ngaliwurra Aboriginal people.

With the beautiful Victoria River, running through deep valleys and gorges, this place is one of the Northern Territory’s most scenic places to catch barramundi.
