Camooweal is a small town in north-western Queensland, Australia, located 188 km north-west of the city of Mount Isa and 12 km east of the Northern Territory border. Local government is provided by the Mount Isa City Council. The town lies on the Barkly Highway, and is adjacent to the Georgina River. Camooweal was gazetted as a town in 1884.

The population of Camoweel is only a few hundred people. Along the main road (the Barkly Highway) there are several caravan stops or van parks which will take mobile homes and tents.

Australian country music legend Slim Dusty wrote a moving song entitled simply ‘Camooweal’ which features this town.

Travelling the Barkly Highway west from Mount Isa or east from Tennant Creek be sure not to miss a visit to The Barkly Tableland Heritage Centre in Camooweal.

The heritage listed building dates to the 1890s. It was originally built by Burketown merchants and was the main store in Camooweal.

Now a museum, it contains artefacts and photographs from the early days of settlement.
