Flying Fish Point is aptly named, and is one of Far North Queensland’s richest estuary fishing locations. Little known, and closely guarded by keen fishing locals, Flying Fish Point is located at the mouth of the Johnstone River, Innisfail.

Fishing off the beach is popular at Flying Fish Point, and those lucky enough to own absolute beachfront accommodation in the area boast being able to ‘fish from their doorstep’.

There are two boat ramps at Flying Fish Point not far apart, and estuary fishermen generally report admirable catches of barramundi and Mangrove jack. Other fish oft caught include; trevally, whiting and mackeral.

Host to the annual Coconuts Regatta, in July many outriggers travel to Flying Fish Point to take part in the rowing competition. Reputedly a fierce and exciting competition, hundred of competitors and spectators gather at Flying Fish Point creative a festive and adventurous day.

The area has a small selection of boutique accommodation, mostly holiday homes, and a caravan park, all just metres from the beach.
