Located in the South East Coast area of Tasmania, Andover is in the Southern Midlands local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lyons.

Andover is a small rural locality within the local government area of Southern Midlands.

The locality was named by Lieutenant Francis Tabart after his arrival in Van Diemen’s Land from Andover in England in 1831.

Andover is 102 kilometres from the capital city of Hobart and can be reached within one and a half hours of travel via the National Highway 1.

At the 2021 national census, the population of 7120 (Including Andover) was 1892 people. Out of those, 952 were male and 935 were female.
