Notley Hills
Located in the Devonport area of Tasmania, Notley Hills is in the West Tamar local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lyons.
Notley Hills is a small rural locality within West Tamar.
The famous attraction in the area is the Notley Fern Gorge. It is a remnant patch of rainforest above the Tamar Valley, northern Tasmania. The wet sclerophyll forest area has a walking track and picnic area beneath towering trees.
The forest is dominated by eucalyptus towering above the rainforest understory. The state reserve is well known for a burnt out tree known as ‘Bradey’s Tree. There is a 1.5 kilometre (1 mile) track weaving past glades of mosses and ferns which takes about 45-minutes to walk. The walk requires moderate fitness and crosses the creek several times with a steady climb uphill on the return.
Notley Hills is 225 kilometres from the capital city of Hobart and can be reached within three hours of travel time via National Highway 1.
