Located in the West Coast area of Tasmania, Osterley is in the Southern Midlands local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lyons.

Osterley is a small rural locality located in Central Highlands, Tasmania.

In the 1870s, the town did become home to poor migrants from Scotland, Germany and Ireland – many of whom were shepherds, looking for affordable land to graze their sheep and make a living.

Osterley is 107 kilometres from the capital city of Hobart and can be reached within one and a half hours of travel time via Lyell Highway/A10.
