Rheban

Located in the South East Coast area of Tasmania, Rheban is in the Southern Midlands local government area, and within the electoral seat of Lyons.

Rheban is a small rural community within Glamorgan/Spring Bay located in the central east coast of the island.

Rheban Beach is just 12 km southeast of Orford. It’s a great walk along the beach, and around the corner to Earlham Lagoon, with stunning views of Maria Island just over the Mercury Passage.

Rheban Beach is a curving, then convex 3.5 km long sandy beach. It commences at the base of the gently sloping farmland adjacent to Rheban farm and trends to the southeast, before curving round at Sandspit Point and trending south to terminate at the dynamic mouth of Earlham Lagoon. There is public access at the northern end of the beach adjacent to the farm.

Rheban, TAS is 66 kilometres from the capital city of Hobart and can be reached within an hour of travel time via Tasman Highway/A3 and Arthur/A9.

At the 2021 national census, the population of 7190 (Including Rheban) was 3458 people. Out of those, 1772 were male and 1682 were female.

394 (11.39%) of those people were born outside Australia, and the remaining 2824 people were born in Australia. 173 (5.00%) of these people are Indigenous Australians.
