Avalon

Postcode: 3212

Avalon is an outer northeastern suburb of Geelong, Victoria. Its Local Government Area is the City of Greater Geelong and it is located on the western shore of Port Phillip Bay to the southwest of the state’s capital city of Melbourne.

Avalon is notable for the Avalon Raceway (also known as Avalon Speedway) and Avalon Airport, which is the new home base of the budget domestic airline Jetstar Airways and the site of the biennial Avalon International Airshow, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Although located on the outskirts of Geelong, the airport effectively operates as a second airport for the much larger city of Melbourne.

Avalon is believed to be a potential future site of a new Australian Disneyland theme park. A new DFO Shopping Warehouse is expected to start building soon.

Almost 1,100 persons are employed at Avalon in activities concerned with defence manufacturing and testing, the airport, and maintenance of commercial aircraft. There are plans for use of the airport for the export of fresh food. Avalon is also well located for access to the ports at Melbourne and Geelong.

Avalon Homestead has become a conference centre.
